Read Myra and the Magic Motorcycle: Book 1—The Business in Bermuda to your student(s).

You can then do the following activity either as a group activity or one that students complete at their desks on their own.

Ask your students “How many times does Diver appear in the story?”

Then either go through the book together as a group, counting together, or get each student to quietly attempt to do this on their own, with their copy of the book.

Ask your students to "Write down the numbers of the pages Diver appears on."

Read Myra and the Magic Motorcycle: Book 1—The Business in Bermuda to your student(s).

Discussion

You can do this activity either as a group activity or one that students complete at their desks on their own. Ask your students the following questions:

1. After Myra turned on the motorcycle how much time passed before she arrived back in Australia? (Ans: none)
2. If it was 4 o’clock in the afternoon when Myra left Limestone Point, Australia, and it took her 2 hrs 30 mins to Globe Slide through the Earth, what time was it in Australian time when Myra arrived in Bermuda? (Ans: 6:30pm)
3. What time was it in Bermudan time when Myra arrived in Bermuda? Provide child with resource to convert international date and time. Eg. a map or sheet showing world times or http://www.worldtimeserver.com (Ans: 5:30am)
4. How long do you think the events in Bermuda took? (There’s no right or wrong answer, just get them talking, eg. 2hrs, 4hrs, 5hrs)
5. If we assume the events in Bermuda took 4 hrs, what time was it in Bermudan time when Myra left Bermuda? (Ans: 9:30am)
6. ADVANCED: What time would it have been in Bermudan time when Myra arrived back in Australia, assuming it took the same amount of time to travel back through the Earth as it took to Globe Slide to Bermuda? (Ans: 12 noon)
7. ADVANCED: Convert the Bermudan time in your answer to Australian time. (Ans: 1:00am)
8. ADVANCED–lateral thinking: The Magic Motorcycle made it possible for Myra to be walking back inside to see her parents around 4 o’clock. What does this mean? (There’s no right or wrong answer, just get them talking, eg. does that mean the events in Bermuda did not take place? Can the Magic Motorcycle travel back in time? Myra is magically in two places at one time, like Shrödinger’s Cat or Hermione Granger in Harry Potter.]
